2014 AWARDS by AFTER Las Vegas

2014 was an amazing year, with the launch of AFTER. in Las Vegas, the viral #djrules, and a slew of local and international support.

We are especially humbled and honored to receive these awards this year:

Best Authentic House Party: After

The EDM backlash has produced more than a few “deep” and tech-house getaways, but nowhere has that recoil been more strongly felt than at After, the early-morning house event that not only books real house practitioners, but—per its infamous and viral list of DJ rules—bans the ones who aren’t. Since launching earlier this year, it has landed at 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque, where local DJs enjoy a freedom not typically afforded to them elsewhere on the Strip, and international underground talent stops on the way to the West Coast. Mandalay Bay, 702-912-4001. Sat, 3-8 a.m., $20, $10 for locals.

Best Underground Leader

After Afterhours made a national splash when a list of “DJ Rules” for the after-hours event—launched February 1 in the former Empire Ballroom space—went viral. The initial excitement over those anti-commercial commandments was supported by rare bookings, a dedicated following and a move to Holly Madison’s 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque. Now following a brief hiatus, After is looking to expand again at a new location. Several warehouse parties are already in the works, and we can expect a new residency launching New Year’s Eve and continuing Saturdays thereafter. Of the change, managing partner Thom Svast says, “We’re trying to bring house music back to its roots.” So, will the “DJ Rules” still apply? Svast says, “Absolutely.” AfterLasVegas.com.

BEST CHAMPION OF THE UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT

THOM SVAST

If there’s one man who’s determined to give Las Vegas legit underground DJ sets, it’s Thom Svast. Sure, there have been some speed bumps—OK, maybe mountains—to overcome, but he keeps bringing the beats as managing partner of After (the after-hours venue with the now-infamous “DJ Rules” for keeping the commercial tunes at bay). Check out Svast’s handiwork at After’s new home, 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque. In the Shoppes at Mandalay Place, 702-945-7500, AfterLasVegas.com.

Max Graham at AFTER. February 22nd 2014 by AFTER Las Vegas

Max Graham was one of the first mega DJs to react to our #djrules that went viral back in early February when we opened AFTER. He fully supported the message we intended to send regarding the recent trend of EDM commercialization and homogenization that has permeated Las Vegas nightclubs (and worldwide). We were the perfect platform for him to bring a different sound to Vegas than he ever has before... a 5-hour techno set.
